Ontario Minimum Wage Increasing October 1, 2025 – What Employers Need to Know

Ontario employers should prepare for the upcoming minimum wage increase set to take effect this fall. Beginning October 1, 2025, the general minimum wage will rise from $17.20 per hour to $17.60 per hour.

This increase is part of Ontario’s annual minimum wage review, which adjusts rates to reflect changes in the cost of living. Employers across the province will need to review and update payroll practices to ensure compliance.

Updated Minimum Wage Rates

Along with the general rate, several other categories of minimum wage will also see adjustments:

  • Student Minimum Wage: Increasing from $16.20 to $16.60 per hour
  • Homeworkers Minimum Wage: Increasing from $18.90 to $19.35 per hour

What Employers Should Do

To prepare for this change, employers should:

  • Review employee wage rates to confirm compliance by October 1, 2025
  • Update payroll systems and employment agreements where applicable
  • Communicate the changes to employees in advance to ensure transparency and understanding
